Elevator Horn Drilling / Fiberglass Work Begins
I drilled out the elevator horns and got the building itch. Literally! I worked with fiberglass for the first time. Boy, that stuff is messy.
I ended up using some plastic bushings from Lowe's for drilling out the elevator horns. They had an OD of 1/4" and I used a 9/32" for the pilot hole.

Here the bushing is in place and ready to be drilled.

After drilling the 9/32" pilot hole, I enlarged them to 1/4" using a step drill bit.

On to the fiberglass tips. I had to do a lot of trimming to get the fit just right. This is a rough cut and I will need to do some fine tuning before I start glassing. I also had to file down the lead counterweights to match the contour of the elevator and allow the tip to line up properly with the skins.

Here I have the cut out lines in the spar to allow the elevator horns to swing all the way.
This is how much I had to cut from the HS tip. The dremel made quick work of the cutting but it made a mess.

Another cut along the length of the tips to allow them to insert into the elevators without hitting the rivets inside.
